Description
We are sorry you experienced a problem with a Palmarius brand rod. We want all our customers to have an outstanding experience. Our rods are Triple tested in such a way that gives us a very high degree of confidence we are sending sound and tested product out the door, we also realize that thin, ultra sensitive and by definition light rod can be easily damaged, especially in transport and while not fishing.
Blank is produced and then brutally machine tested 3/100 blow up then and there
Rod is built and a #300 Kevlar line is run through the guides, looped around the reel seat and a 3 KG kettlebell is bounced repeated - by a human in a plexiglass booth. 1/100 rods blow up the other 99 are shipped to us in a plastic sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap.
When the rods arrive in the United States I personally pack each and every rod into the Branded Palmarius rods sleeve and Insert it from the tip bending the heck out of it.
If the rod survives the above we know 100% we sent you a solid rod.
To try and combat injuries, seen and unseen, to the Carbon Fiber shafts please store and transport your rod in the provided Palmarius rod sleeve or a Palmarius Mesh Rod Sleeve.
Fish the rod parallel to the water or lower down to point the rod at the water in the case of a nice fish.
You should never see more than the second eye of the rod - if so you are lifting it too high - that is not what the rod was designed for.
In SPJ Style fishing we do not pump the fish, we do not high stick the rods we do not "set the hook", rather we reel down until we are tight and from there you can grind the fish in using the power of the reel or even get on the gunnel cowboy style, straddling the rail, reel down with rod pointed the water and pull the gimbal (butt of the rod toward the sky, reel down, repeat). With a good one it can be a literal tug of war rather than a lift and pump as you would with a fiberglass rod.
SPJ rod blanks at under 2 ounces are simply not designed for Bill Dance style hook sets or high sticking - please observe proper Japanese form and you will be fine.
How do I learn the proper form to be successful ? Glad you asked! Please visit these outstanding websites acknowledged as the correct way to do it!

Slow Pitch Rods are designed by their nature to be fished without excessive drags and loads. Ideally once the fish is hooked, follow your fish around the deck and/or spin the boat to aid in maintaining a proper fighting angle of anywhere from 0 degrees (pointing the rod tip at the fish and often in the water) to an absolute maximum of fishing the rod parallel to the water (45 degrees). Again if you look at the rod and see more than 2 Guides - you are doing it wrong lower the rod tip until you can only see the first two guides - yes that will mean you need to find a spot on the boat where you can learn your body over the rail.
